Larry Burrows: «War Is About To Accelerate The Meaning Of Life»

31 Aug

The photographer Larry Burrows was shot down while covering Operation Lam Son 719, a massive armoured invasion of Laos by South Vietnamese forces. On this photograph, however, he still had enough energy not only to photograph his fellow photojournalist but to yell out his most famous quote as well – which is headlined.

Robert Capa’s famous last words were: «I’ll stay away from London. What about Paris….» In German, however, he prefered to announce something completely different: «Ich werde ein wenig gehen. Sagt mir, wenn es weitergeht.»

Unfortunately, Larry Burrows was not allowed to enlighten our spirit with his final thoughts. What a tremendous loss.
