Geschichtlicher Hintergrund des «Planking»

History of Planking

Das in letzter Zeit wieder schwer ins Licht und das Bewußtseins der Öffentlichkeit gerückte «Planking» (Meerschweinchenreport berichtete hier), geht auf eine Lebensphiolosophie zurück, die ihre Wurzeln zu Zeiten der französischen Revolution erstmals schlug. Damals ging es ebenfalls darum, sich langgestreckt, mit angelegten Armen und Gesicht nach unten an einer möglichst ungewöhnlichen Location fotografieren zu lassen.

Allerdings hatte es sich noch nicht genügend herumgesprochen, daß die Fotografie noch gar nicht erfunden ward, weshalb es im 18. Jahrhundert üblich war, die Planking-Prozedur nicht zu überleben, weil sich der bestellte Fotograf über Jahrzehnte hinweg verspätete. Die mit diesem Ereignis verbundene häufigste Todesursache war entweder der Hirn- bzw. Hungertod, oder schlicht überbordende Langeweile.

Vor diesem Hintergrund etablierte sich recht schnell ein Derivat dieses Trends: das sogenannte «Wett-Planking» (siehe Bild oben). Hierbei «plankten» gleich mehrere «Planker» um die Wette, warteten darauf, daß der jeweils andere als erster nebst Geduld den Kopf verlor – und aufgab.

Beispielhaft und geschichtemachend war das Wettplanken der beiden «Jakobiner-Titanen» und Wohlfahrtsexperten Georges Danton (links im Bild) und Maximilien de Robespierre (rechts im Bild). Danton verlor seinen Kopf am 5. April 1794, Robbespierre jedoch erst einige Monate später, nämlich am 28. Juli 1794, wobei Letzgenannter es sich nicht nehmen ließ, die Prozedur seines Kopfverlustes mit heftigem und selbstgemachtem Siegesgebrüll standesgemäß zu begleiten.

Dem bis vor kurzem aktiv im australischen Brisbane wohnende 20-jährige Acton Beale waren die bisherigen Neo-Planking-Bemühungen offensichtlich zu weit von der «Originalvorlage» entfernt, was ihn dazu veranlasste, sich und seinen betrunken Körper auf das Geländer eines Balkons im siebten Stock zu wuchten, um sich dort in besagter Plankerpose ablichten zu lassen. Hier verspätete sich zwar nicht der Fotograf, wohl aber des Australiers Auffassungs- und Beurteilungsvermögen, was irgendwie zwangsläufig zu Beales unfreiwilligen Kurzflugbemühungen führte…

«Homer» on rebel:art

I don’t know what has happened to rebel:art‘s Erscheinungsbild, aber seit meinem letzten Besuch vor einer gefühlten Ewigkeit, hat sich da ein bißchen was getan. Aber was denn nur? Ist es der Ausdruck des schleichenden Älterwerdens, ohne daß man selbst eine vernünftige Erklärung dafür aufbringen kann? Justin Bieber? What’s that? Vielleicht ein geheimes Erkennungsmerkmal unter Streetartartisten, die aus welchen Gründen auch immer lieber unerkannt bleiben wollen? Kann sein, aber in diesem Falle wohl eher weniger. Ignoriert man einmal Mr Le Bieber, so macht der rebel:art-Anzug einen hinreichend nadelstreifigen Eindruck. Ob das der arte-Adelung geschuldet ist? Streetart goes Upperclass? Schön wär’s ja!

An artwork called The World’s Largest Breasts, by Chinese artist Shu Yong, is towed by an ox in Qingyuan, Guangdong Province, China. Interestingly, no one talks about the red painted ox. I thought the ox was the artwork. Or is there a hidden comment on the special relationship between the world’s largest breasts and the red painted ox? Comments are welcome!

Chalk Art Drawings from Julian Beever

Julian Beever is an English, Belgium-based, chalk artist who has been creating chalk drawings on pavement surfaces since the mid-1990s. His works are created using a projection called anamorphosis, and create the illusion of three dimensions when viewed from the correct angle. Julian admits that some people see his work as graffiti, and don’t feel it has a place on public streets. Happily, he says, he mostly receives a positive reaction and people like and enjoy his art.

Just click on SuperTouch at the end of this article. Before I forget: Bansky did the layout of his interview in TIME OUT London as well. This reminds me of Neville Brody who once was allowed to do the same thing in the German news magazine DER SPIEGEL.
